The AddoPad Overview

Kids love touch-screen tablets because the natural interface for interactive media is perfect for their developing minds and motor skills.  The sights and sounds attract and hold their interest as they explore, create, learn, and play.  Tablets have become effective and convenient devices for sharing an activity or a game with a young child. 

The founders are using their own experiences as kids, parents, aunts, uncles, geeks, and multi-media comms specialists to create something special.  AddoPad is a full-featured tablet ecosystem that builds on the Android platform and adds a layer of security and interface simplicity appropriate for young users.  Performance-certified and value-priced tablets connect directly to a screened content store to provide a complete family-friendly experience. 

Child-mode includes two custom user-interfaces appropriate for age groups 1-3 and 4-6.  Child-mode is restricted to a simple set of operational commands operated using custom-designed graphical icons.  There is no direct network access when in child-mode.

Parent-mode removes the command and network access restrictions of child-mode but retains most of the added security features developed for AddoPad.  Parent-Mode is used to configure the rules and restrictions for child mode, to acquire content from the curated AddoStore, and for other general-purpose tablet uses.  An AddoPad in parent-mode has full Internet access, including access and support for the huge number of Android applications in 3rd Party App stores.  

The AddoStore contains child-friendly content that has been screened to ensure that it is safe and robust.  None of the content is unique to AddoPad–AddoPad leverages the entire Android developer community–but the AddoStore makes it a lot easier and less time-consuming for parents to find and acquire suitable content for their kids.  The AddoPad team will continue to screen and add new apps to the AddoStore as they become available, and we want the parent community to participate.  If you find a cool Android App that your kids love, we want to hear about it!
